VASE
Design visual enhancement to existing vase
Problem
Completed vase design will be showcased at the President’s Inauguration. Design will connect acrylic and glass vase together without any adhesives. Final product must also be durable and remain intact while being picked up.

Solution
Final prototype must be fabricated from 1/4 inch thick acrylic. O-rings will be used as connectors in place of adhesives.
Design Intent
Design a vase that is:
-
does not break when moved
-
sits on any level surface and suitable in different environments
-
visually appealing to look at, but not overly aggressive
Initial Iterations
The focus of the first iterations were to experiment different forms that fit with the vase and learn how they would interact with the vase.
Model Development
Helices were experimented with different amounts of rotations. Many base piece sizes needed to be explored in order to fit the vase. Varying shapes were tested for connectors.
Concept Development
Features
T-shaped acrylic “nails” secure the base to the helix with small O-rings.
The top loop of the helix holds with friction at the top opening of the vase.
The vase sits in the opening of the base acrylic piece and aids in securing the spiral.
